Enhancing Access of the Rural Poor to Land, Livelihood and Food Security

AVARD, as the national focal organisation in India for Land Watch India (LWI), in partnership with Ekta Parishad (EP) and SARRA, has organised national and state-level round tables, built up alliances, campaigned and advocated for national land reforms policy and land use plan, finishing the unfinished task of land reforms, against land grabbing, and enhancing access of the rural poor to land, livelihood and food security. Of Course, entire credit goes to EP for its Jan Satyagraha 2012 concluding with a ten-point Agreement with the Government of India, since followed by the Draft National Land Reforms Policy and Draft Homestead Bill, presently in public domain. Implementation of Forest Rights Act in Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and distribution of Bhoodan land and computerisation of Bhoodan records in Bihar as well as implementation of Bihar Land Reforms Commission’s recommendations (selectively) have been paid special attention. The process continues. LWI is linked with and assisted by Land Watch Asia (LWA) anchored at ANGOC, Manila, Philippines.
