National Alliance Against Hunger and Malnutrition (NAAHM)

AVARD provides the institutional base to, and coordinates, the NAAHM-India which is linked with the international AAHM based at FAO Rome as well as with the regional AAHM-Asia based at ANGOC, Manila. This arrangement for NAAHM-India was notified by Ms. Marie Christine Laporte, Coordinator of the International AAHM, vide her email/letter dated 24 May 2012. Since then, the following steps have been taken:

  • A National Situationer on ‘Hunger And Malnutrition In India: Status, Causes And Cures’ has been prepared and shared with the regional and international Alliances. (Its Executive Summary was later used as the Backgrounder in the National Consultation held in New Delhi on 13-14 August 2013 to launch the NAAHM-India formally).
  • NAAHM-India: Road Map (Country Plan), 2013-2015’ has been prepared and shared with the regional and international Alliances (since approved in the above National Consultation with minor modifications).
  • The General Secretary represented AVARD/NAAHM-India in a planning workshop held in Manila, Philippines on 06-07 December 2012, followed by a brainstorming on resources for ANGOC at the same venue on 08 December 2012.
  • The above National Consultation on ‘Fighting Hunger And Malnutrition’, planned and organised, in which NAAHM-India has been formally launched and various decisions about it, taken democratically (to be reported in detail separately and later).
  • Liaison and correspondence with international and regional Alliances as well as others concerned has been carried on.
  • Following the National Consultation, expansion of membership has been in the process.
  • However, resource (both financial and human) constraints come in the way of further work. Hence, efforts are afoot to raise resources. AVARD has so far carried on with its own modest resources, except a modest support received for the National Consultation.
